Summer School Information

Summer school has not been cancelled at this time. The College will monitor the situation as we approach summer school and evaluate the feasibility of offering summer courses as planned or online. It is important to keep looking at the summer school section of the JAC website to stay up-to date with the latest dates and procedures.

The SUMMER SCHOOL 2020 Course List is now available.

New students who wish to take math make-up classes can do so by filling out the following form:

Information

COURSE SCHEDULE

All courses run Monday through Thursday (with the exception of Math 201-015, which is also on Friday and Physical Education – see schedule on course list). The College will be closed on June 24, 2020 and July 1, 2020. Please check the Summer School schedule (on the JAC Portal) for full details on the days and times. 

COURSES MAY BE CANCELLED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT ENROLLMENT.

SUMMER SCHOOL FEES

The deadline to pay Summer School fees is as follows:

Priority A:               Within 24 hours of pre-registration (notification will be sent via OMNIVOX)
Priority B:                June 2, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
Priority C:                June 2, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

Failure to pay fees by the deadline will result in deregistration.

International students must have a valid student visa and medical health insurance coverage until August 10, 2020 to be permitted to register.

Fin d’études students who need 1-2 courses to graduate in the summer and, who have not been considered part-time or “fin d’études” in a previous semester will only be required to pay registration fees.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

Courses dropped from a student record before or on the official drop deadline will not appear on a student transcript. All fees except registration and application fees will be refunded. All course drops must be processed by email to summerschool@johnabbott.qc.ca or in person at the Registrar’s office in H-128. There will be no exceptions to these deadlines.

ATTENDANCE VALIDATION

The day after the drop deadline, you must confirm your attendance in the course(s) in which you are registered using the OMNIVOX ATTENDANCE VALIDATION module. 

WAITLIST

If you were unable to register for a course, you can request to add your name to the waitlist by sending an email to summerschool@johnabbott.qc.ca

Please include:
SUBJECT: Course and section number for which you want to have your name added to the waitlist.
BODY: Your full name and student ID number.
Students will be notified only if space becomes available.

CLASSIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT TIMES

PRIORITY A
Graduating students needing 1 to 3 courses to complete diploma requirements or graduating students needing extra courses to meet university prerequisites.

PRIORITY B
Students graduating in the Fall semester needing 1 or 2 courses above their regular program course load in order to stay in sequence. 

PRIORITY C
Non-graduating students.

APPOINTMENT PROCEDURES

PRIORITY A

  • Between May 4 to May 22, 2020 complete a Summer School Priority Registration Form in the Registrar’s Office.
  • You will be pre-registered by May 27, 2020, at the latest, in your course(s) by the Registrar’s Office and will be notified via OMNIVOX to pay your fees within 24 hours of your pre-registration.

IMPORTANT:

No commandite will be given for a course(s) that you are pre-registered in at John Abbott. If you want a commandite, you will be given a priority A appointment at John Abbott, but will not be pre-registered in any course(s). Registration will be on June 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

PRIORITY B

  • Between May 4 to May 22, 2020, complete a Summer School Priority Registration Form in the Registrar’s Office.
  • Students will be notified, at the latest, May 29, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. via Omnivox of their appointment time.
  • Registration will be on June 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

PRIORITY C

  • You must complete the summer school registration survey on Omnivox between May 4 and May 22, 2020.
  • Students will be notified, at the latest, May 29, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. via Omnivox of their appointment time.
  • Registration will be on June 2, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

COMMANDITE PROCEDURES

Commandite at a Francophone Cegep

If you are interested in taking a summer course at a Francophone Cegep, please see an Academic Advisor ASAP. Academic Advisors are available weekdays from 10:00 to 13:00 in H-117 without an appointment.

Commandite at an Anglophone Cegep

As of May 4, 2020, John Abbott students who want to take a course at another CEGEP must obtain a “Cours Commandite” form from an Academic Advisor in H-117. Students are responsible for registering with the CEGEP where the course will be followed.

FALL 2020 REGISTRATION ADJUSTMENTS (FOR DAY DIVISION STUDENTS)

  • Potential graduates who fail a summer school course and did not register during the regular registration period must contact the Registrar’s Office to correct any individual registration problems by August 7, 2020.
  • Summer students who need to add/drop courses after receiving summer school grades in order to complete their registration for the Fall semester must contact the Registrar’s Office by August 14, 2020.

Students Currently
Registered at Another CEGEP

  • Students currently registered at another CEGEP must obtain a “cours commandite” request from their CEGEP.
  • Commandites will be processed between May 4 and May 22, 2020. Commandites received afterwards will not be processed.
  • Once the commandite is processed at John Abbott College, students will receive an e-mail with a link to complete the application.
  • Commandite students will be processed after John Abbott students that are Priority A & B.
  • Students will be notified, at the latest, May 29, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. via Omnivox of their appointment time.

IMPORTANT: Commandite forms do not guarantee placement in courses.

Students Currently
Not Attending CEGEP

Students who are currently not attending a CEGEP level institution must come to the Registrar’s Office between May 19 and May 22, 2020 to fill out an application form. Students must bring the following documents to open their file:

Born in Quebec Born in Canada, but not in Quebec Born outside of Canada, but are a canadian citizen or permanent resident
–        your valid Quebec birth certificate (indicating parents’ names) AND

 

–        Statement of Marks if you graduated high school outside of Quebec or obtained an equivalent diploma

–        your valid birth certificate (indicating parents’ names) AND

 

–        your valid Medicare card (if no longer supported by parents) OR Parents’ valid Medicare card (if supported by parents) AND

 

–        Statement of Marks if you graduated high school outside of Quebec or obtained an equivalent diploma

  • Your valid birth certificate (indicating parents’ names) in English or French

AND

  • Canadian citizenship papers (both sides) OR permanent residency papers (both sides)

AND

  •  Your Parents’ valid Medicare card

OR

  • Certificat de Sélection (CSQ) – If applicable, in lieu of the medicare card

AND

  • Statement of Marks IF you graduated high school outside of Quebec or obtained an equivalent diploma

Students will be notified, at the latest, May 29, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. via Omnivox of their appointment time.
