Kobe Gakuin University was established in 1966 in the historic city of Kobe, not far from Osaka, Japan. Some 7,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate study in one of the four faculties of Economics, Law, Nutrition and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The emphasis on a general education provides a broad, inter-disciplinary framework for students. Second-language training is offered in English, French, German and Chinese.

CONTENT OF SUMMER SCHOOL
Students enrol in an English language course, either at the elementary or intermediate level. Emphasis is placed on oral communication. Classes are held Monday through Friday on the John Abbott campus. Cultural and sight-seeing excursions, highlighting the Canadian experience, are planned throughout their stay, as well as a "Japan Night" focussing on their culture.

"HOME-STAY" ACCOMMODATION
Experience has shown that this kind of program is most effective when the students stay with local families. Host families provide a room for a Japanese student. Each day the family must provide breakfast, a sandwich lunch to be taken to the College and an evening meal. Families living in close proximity to John Abbott College are preferred, to ensure the student has easy access to the campus. During the length of the program there will be a coordinator available to act as liaison with host families. An orientation session for Host Families is held early August.

COST OF ROOM AND BOARD
The host family receives $450.00 to house a student for three weeks. If you are interested in participating, give us a call today.
