    Sunil Ramgulam - Head Coach

A graduate of John Abbott in 1996 Sunil began coaching that same year at John Rennie High School. Having coached there for 10 years he took a year off and then returned to coaching as the head coach of the Islanders co-ed volleyball team in 2007. In his rookie year he was able to help the Islanders win the Division 1 championship upsetting two of the top three teams in the process. Sunil is also the head coach of the Lac St Louis under 17 Espoir boys program.

 

As a physical education teacher, personal trainer, and massage therapist Sunil brings a wealth of knowledge about sports and sports performance to the Islander program. In addition he plays in four different leagues throughout the year while at the same time being president of the Pierrefonds municipal league.

    Rogerald Solmerano – Assistant Coach

 

As a former Islander, Roger eagerly joins the John Abbott College coaching staff after 13 years of volleyball experience.  He started as power hitter at Loyola High School, including 1 year as setter.  He also set for the Juvenile AAA Redmen team.  While at JAC, he was introduced to the new libero position earning 2 regional silver medals and 1 provincial bronze with the Islanders.  He also competed for 3 summers in different beach volleyball leagues.  Currently, Roger keeps busy by playing in both recreational and competitive indoor leagues.

 

After graduating from Abbott’s commerce program in 2002, he went on to McGill where he obtained a B.Com degree from the Faculty of Management.  For the past 4 years, he has been working as a commercial insurance broker in downtown Montreal.
