PRESS RELEASE

MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2009

HANK BINNING IS NEW HOCKEY COACH

The Athletic Director is pleased to announce the hiring of Henry “Hank” Binning as the new Lady Islander hockey Head Coach.  He replaces Bill Campbell who announced his departure from the program in July.

Hank is a proud father of three children, Cory (age 23), Jaime (18) and Tara (15). One is currently attending university; one is at John Abbott, and one still in high school. All three are active in sports and they have also done some coaching as well. This could only be possible by the support of a loving and a very understanding wife, Gail, of nearly 24 years.

An assistant the past two season with the Lady Islanders, Hank has a wealth of experience and has been involved in girl’s sports for more than 14 years, which includes soccer, baseball, softball, ringuette and hockey and he has coached and organized sports and different teams for 23 years. He has held coaching certificates in ringuette, soccer and hockey.

He has held several positions within the Lac St Louis region including Director of Hockey Feminine in La Presqu’ile (now Trois Lacs) for 6 years.  He was also the first Director of Hockey feminine in the region of Lac St Louis. While in that position for three years it gave him the opportunity to help establish the Elites and Selects program which later became AA within the Hockey Quebec Federation.

He has also coached two Jeux du Quebec teams, one to a silver medal, and has also coached two provincial championship teams which included a Dodge Cup Peewee AA Championship. He also ran summer hockey programs for six years and coached the Montreal Metro AAA summer team for a number of years.

He has had great success, coaching several of his teams to provincial and regional championships including 15 plus tournament championships, and at the same time has lost many finals over the years as well.

Henry “Hank” Binning is one of the new additions to the Lady Islanders hockey coaching staff as an Assistant Coach to Bill Campbell.

   Pierre Mongeon – Assistant Coach

Pierre returns the Abbott coaching staff this season after coaching with the Lady Islanders from 2005-2007.  As a player he played Junior Varsity for Concordia University in the early 1970`s.  He graduated from Concordia University in 1978 with a BSC in Biophysical Education.

He has coached at Loyola High School at the pee-wee and juvenile levels and has been involved with the Concordia Stinger Hockey School for the past 25 years (mostly with goaltender division).

He has also worked with The Can/ Am hockey group Lake Placid for the last 20 years, hockey camps for youth and adult (men & women) and overseeing tournaments.  He also coached with the Midget boys Espoir Tigers Lac St. Louis team from 2007-2009.

Pierre has been working in the Insurance and Investment field since 1986.  A resident of Ile Bizard, he is married and a proud father of 3 children.
