Faculty bios

Susanne Olligschlager, Chair 

Susanne Olligschlager is Chair of the Fine Arts Department. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Mount Allison University, specializing in Sculpture and Printmaking and her Master’s degree from Concordia University, specializing in Painting. She has been exhibiting her work in Canada, where she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Her work can be found in public and private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe.

She has been with the Fine Arts Department at John Abbott College since 1991 where she teaches Painting, Drawing and Printmaking.

David Lubell

David Lubell has been teaching at John Abbott College for fourteen years. He obtained his Bachelor’s and his Master’s degree from Concordia University. He has been exhibiting his work in Montreal. His work is part of many private and public collections in Canada. You can see his paintings at Gallery Sandra Goldie.

Mary Standjofski

Mary Standjofski received her Bachelor's degree from Concordia University, and her Master's degree from Dundee University, Scotland, specializing in printmaking at both universities. She has been teaching at John Abbott College since 2001 and has also taught Print-Media at Concordia University and at University of Dundee. In addition she has given courses in Drawing, Printmaking and Bookmaking at The Visual Art Center, The Saidye Bronfman Centre and The International Academy of Design.

In 1994-95 Mary set up a printmaking studio in the Inuit community of Rankin Inlet, NWT; taught lithographic techniques; and printed editions of Inuit artists’ work. She also has worked on large format prints in Scotland and Sweden, and researched digital imaging.

Her exhibition record includes Canada and Europe.

Robert Williams

Robert Williams received his Bachelor’s degree from University of Manitoba and his Master’s degree from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He has been teaching at John Abbott College for 27 years. He has participated in numerous exhibitions across Canada. His work is part of many public and private collections. Prior to teaching he owned and ran a production studio and store in Kitchener, Ontario.

Sheila Nadimi

Sheila Nadimi received her Master's of Fine Arts from Utah State University and a post-graduate diploma from the Art Academy in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She has received grants and awards for her work including the Netherlands Foundation for Art, Design and Architecture, the Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and The Canada Council.  She has exhibited and participated in artist residencies in Canada, the United States and Europe. She has also published writings and photographs from a project entitled Everyday Camouflage in the City in the architectural journal Lotus International (Milan).  She has been with the Fine Arts Department of John Abbott College since 2005 where she primarily teaches sculpture.

Erwin Regler

Erwin Regler studied Fine Arts with a specialization in Sculpture at the University of the Arts in Berlin and at the State University of New York. He is a Montreal based sculptor with an exhibition record including galleries in Canada, USA and Germany. His works can be found in private collections in North America and Germany.

His art employs tangible materials, found objects and digital models aiming for an experience analog to the human condition.

Parallel to his metal sculptures he creates objects on the computer and produces them with the help sterolithography.

Mr. Regler teaches 3-D Studio Foundation at John Abbott College and Digital Sculpture along with courses in Design at Concordia University.

Gordana Mijovic, Art History 

Gordana Mijovic, art historian, has been teaching Art History and related subjects at John Abbott College since 1994. From 1981 to 1989 she worked as the museum curator in the 20th century department, National Museum, Belgrade, Yu. Her publications include many catalogue essays and articles on different artists and art styles.

 


 

Wayne Fijal, Fine Arts technician 

Wayne Fijal is a potter who has worked as the studio technician in Ceramics and Fine Arts since 1982. He has taught ceramics and sculpture classes at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design and received his Bachelors in Fine Art from the University of Manitoba and his Masters in Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He enjoys creating functional, decorative pottery and has exhibited his work in numerous venues across Canada over the last 30 years.
