Program and application related DOCUMENTS
Police officers keep the peace, protect people and property, prevent crime and enforce both criminal and civil laws. They reassure victims, arrest criminals and act as peacemakers or mediators. Police work is a career that demands maturity, courage and strong communication skills.
Our Police Technology program is challenging and diverse and prepares students for a career in law enforcement with police forces across Quebec. Police Technology students not only get classroom training, they also receive practical experience.
PRE-ADMISSION TESTING & ELIGIBILITY FOR THE PROGRAM
To qualify for the Police Technology program candidates must:
- Possess a minimum of a probationary driver’s license by the March 1st application deadline
- Possess an above average academic record
- Successfully complete a day of pre-admission testing
- Candidates MUST be functionally bilingual in French and English.
- Once conditionally admitted to the program, pass a complete medical examination in conformity with the requirements of entry to the École nationale de police du Québec (ÉNPQ).
Note:
Obtaining a “Certificate of Good Conduct” does not guarantee admission to the ÉNPQ. “…A candidate must not, from the time of application and until the end of his/her training, have been found guilty, no matter where, of any act or act of omission, that the Criminal code defines as infraction, nor of any of the infractions stipulated in article 183 of the said Code, and deriving from one of the laws referenced in the Code. This provision is interpreted strictly, no matter what the type of sentence returned by a judge (incarceration, fine, community work conditional discharge, etc.).”
L’ÉCOLE NATIONALE DE POLICE DU QUÉBEC (ÉNPQ) :
THE NEXT STEP
Before they can be hired to work as police officers in Quebec, graduates of the Police Technology program must pass a medical examination and complete a 15-week practical police-training program at l’ÉNPQ (which is entirely in French). It is strongly recommended that students consult the ÉNPQ website at www.enpq.qc.ca for detailed entrance requirements, additional to having completed a DEC in Police Technology, for course costs, eligibility, etc.
THE JOB MARKET FOR GRADS
Graduates of the Police Technology program are employed in Quebec police forces, the RCMP, provincial and municipal agencies or private investigation and security firms. Bilingualism (French & English) is required for employment in Quebec.
Graduates interested in working in other provinces or for the RCMP should contact the police force of their choosing to inquire about hiring policies and requirements.
CEGEP ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission to the College is based on the Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES+) or equivalent scholarity. Quebec high school students must also meet the following cegep entrance requirements in addition to the diploma: Secondary IV Physical Science (416), Secondary V Mathematics, or Secondary IV Math 426 or 436.
