Built in 1907 as part of Macdonald College, the library is the academic heart of John Abbott College.
In 2017, a Federal Strategic Investment Fund infrastructure grant for $3.6 M was approved to renovate and upgrade the library, including a complete overhaul of the 20 historic painted-glass windows in the facility. This grant must be matched—50%—by the Provincial Government and John Abbott (JAC), hence the need for private support.
The upgrades to the Library will have a tremendous impact on student study and meeting space on campus. The John Abbott College Foundation is undertaking a capital campaign to support the renovations to this important facility.
The Library is an important space on campus for all our students. Library Media Services has a collection of 63,000 books, 135 print serials, 3,700 bound volumes, 200,000 ebooks, 21,000 electronic journals, 30,000 e-videos, 4,500 DVDs and videos. The print collection is housed on 3000 shelves.
