Intensive Summer English Immersion
MONTREAL / Canada
4 Week Program
May – June

Learning Activities (Monday to Friday)

  • 9:00am to 12:00pm: English Class
  • 1:30pm – 4:30pm: Conversation activities (sports, leisure activities, etc.)
    • 1 full day per week (replaces 9-12 English class)
      • Day Trip to Quebec City or Ottawa
      • Visits to Montreal cultural locations
        • Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Biodome, Olympic Park, Montreal’s Old Port, etc.

Social Activities

  • Evening and Weekend Sports and Recreation
    • Soccer, swimming, rock climbing, etc.
    • Trips to Montreal festivals and events (minimum 1 per week)
      • Montreal Jazz Festival, Fireworks Festival, Food Truck Festival, etc.
    • Montreal Impact professional soccer game
    • La Ronde amusement park and more!
  • Overnight Trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls (3 days, 2 nights)

Homestay in Local Families

  • Located within a 55 minute bus ride to John Abbott College
  • Students receive their own room furnished with a bed, dresser, cupboard, desk, etc.
  • 3 meals per day, plus snacks
  • Caring host families who will give students a chance to practice their English language skills

Location

John Abbott College is located on the beautiful island of Montréal, Canada’s second largest city. Home to one of North America’s most dynamic and cosmopolitan lifestyles, Montreal is the perfect place to improve your English and experience a spectacular summer!

Montreal is famous for its summer festivals and vibrant student population, and home to the most universities per capita in Canada!

Students will take advantage of John Abbott’s beautiful lakeside campus and many sports and recreational activities on site.

Academics

  • 60 hours of in class English Second Language instruction
  • 15 hours of on-site ESL instruction during organized tours of Montreal and Ottawa
    • Students are fully immersed in English
    • Classroom activities focus on communication skills (speaking & writing) and comprehension skills (reading & listening)
    • Students will engage in activities that allow them to use their English in everyday situations
      • John Abbott College is committed to building students’ confidence in English and encouraging them to use their language skills for their intended purpose, communication!

Homestay

  • Students will be matched with a homestay family living near John Abbott College
  • All JAC homestay families are located in safe and secure neighbourhoods
  • All families have been interviewed by John Abbott College
  • By living with a Canadian family students will:
    • Learn useful everyday vocabulary and observe Canadian customs and traditions
    • Share family meals and try new foods
    • Learn local customs
    • Ask questions about life in Canada and share your culture with your new family
    • Practice new language skills learned in class

Culture

  • Montreal is close to Quebec’s capital city and to Canada’s economic capital, Toronto
  • Students will tour Montreal, Quebec City and Toronto during their stay
    • 3 visits to downtown Montreal to see the many sights the city has to offer
    • A 1 day trip to Quebec’s capital city
    • A 2 day trip to Toronto, and Niagara Falls, Ontario
