The Dawson Blues took on the Islander for Southwest Regional Rugby supremacy this past Sunday at Memorial Field. In their previous meeting this year the two teams battled to a 13-13 tie. This rematch would serve to provide the ultimate victor for the season. It was a back and forth match from beginning to end. The Isles were able to score a try late in the first half to take a 5-0 lead into the break. Coming out refreshed in the 2nd half the Isles were able to add on another try and conversion to stretch the lead to 12-0. Dawson answered quickly with a try of their own keeping the game within reach. Late in the game Dawson controlled the possession and were pressing past the Isles 22 but the defense held strong and did not allowing the equalizing score giving the Isles the victory 12-5. This is the 7th consecutive title for the team.
There was also a food drive held during the rugby championships, in which over 500lbs of nonperishable goods were donated to the John Abbott College food bank.
Thank you to all who donated.
