Our Publication Design and Hypermedia Technology (PDHT) Program offers students the opportunity to develop skills in web site creation, publication design and graphic design – skills needed by today’s businesses. In their final semester students apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired by entering the workplace for a three-week fieldwork placement.
AS A PDHT STUDENT YOU WILL LEARN TO:
- Design and create complex web sites in a variety of styles from Mondrian, gothic and grid-based styles to clean and sleek corporate designs
- Design and create brochures, posters, ads, flyers, calendars, newsletters, books and manuals, CD jackets, business cards and packaging
- Create, scan, trace and modify drawings on the computer for logos and illustrations
- Create Flash animations using drawings, images and sound for CD-ROM and the web
- Acquire technical support and customer support skills
- Learn basic translation skills to produce publications and web sites in both English and French
WE ARE SOFTWARE ORIENTED!
Students acquire hands-on experience using up-to-date hardware and software on Windows and Macintosh platforms. Although students become proficient in standard business software required in today’s offices (the Microsoft® Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), the focus is on learning the following specialized design software:
- Adobe® Photoshop
- Quark® Xpress
- Adobe® Illustrator
- Flash
- Adobe® InDesign
