The pre-university programs at John Abbott College are a gateway to a successful university education. These two-year (4 semesters) programs provide students with a solid academic foundation and equip them with the proper tools for a smooth transition to university studies. The pre-university programs combine core courses, which will vary depending on the program of enrolment (see specific program for details), and general education courses.
The career programs at John Abbott College are specifically formatted to give students the knowledge and experience necessary for joining the workforce directly upon graduation. With a more hands-on approach, these programs emphasize the development of skills and aptitudes invaluable to becoming a productive member of the working world. These programs run for a duration of 3 years (6 semesters) and are made up of a fine balance between program-specific core courses and general education courses.
Pathways programs (also known as Springboard to a DEC) are for students that:
1) Wish to obtain pre-requisites to enter another CEGEP program,
2) Would like to explore a CEGEP program at the college,
3) Are deemed in need of institutional support in successfully making the transition from high school to CEGEP.
4) Have not taken any credited college-level courses in the past.
Certificate programs are offered to John Abbott students as a supplement to their existing program of study. Students follow six concentration courses during their regular program and complete a written project on a subject of their choosing related to the certificate subject. Upon completion of a certificate program you will receive a certificate of recognition along with your John Abbott diploma. The individual courses offered by the certificate programs are also available to non-certificate students.
