The ASC is a learning resource for all John Abbott students, both Day Division and Continuing Education. We are responsible for study skill support and tutoring on campus. What services do we provide? The ASC offers varied and individualized learning support to students. Among others, we can help with
  • College-level reading and writing skills
  • Essay-writing skills
  • Study skills, time management, note-taking and test-taking
  • ESL training for students whose first language is not English
  • Preparation for the English Exit Exam
  • Citation styles
As well, the ASC runs a peer tutoring program in which students can get help with subjects taught at JAC.
  • Weekly workshops and workshop series (essay writing, reading, English Exit Exam, study skills, time management, etc.) given by ASC staff. Check the portal for our workshop ads, or write to us requesting a workshop in something you need help with.
  • Peer tutoring centre located in the library basement. The weekly schedule is available in our ASC community.
  • English Language Training (ELT) workshops and one-on-one ESL tutoring for students whose first language is not English.
  • Appointments with ASC staff for individualized help
Aside from academic support to all JAC students, the ASC runs conversation groups in many languages. Our lively book club, BookBuzz, is open to everyone in the JAC community. Other fun activities are social events to honour our peer tutors and an annual writing contest.
